New way to mute conversations: Mute until read

Mute until read

We at Fleep believe the tools we use at work should be optimized for getting work done. As such, we try to make sure all Fleep users can decide what gets their attention and when. One of the main features we’ve built for this purpose is Mute – so our users can mute conversations for a while or forever.

When you mute a conversation, it will not alert you (unless you’re @mentioned) and the unread badge will change to a subtle gray one. So, you can choose when you pay attention to it – and it will not bother you until then.

Mute until read

You can mute a conversation for an hour, until the next day, the next week or “forever” – which means it will remain muted until you unmute it. Recently, we added the option to mute a conversation until it’s read. This means that the conversation will remain muted until you read the conversation fully, up until the latest message – and then, it will become a regular, non-muted conversation again.

Mute until read

The idea for this new option came from our investor Jaan Tallinn. He said he either mutes conversations for “forever” or “until I have time to read this”. And for the latter use case, we added the option to “mute until read”. So you don’t have to think about exactly how long you want to mute a conversation for, but instead it will just remain muted until you take time to open and read it.

The “Mute until read” option is already available on the desktop versions (web browser, macOS, Windows and Linux native apps), and will also become available on mobile apps soon.

If you’d find out more about the Mute feature in Fleep, take a look at “How can I mute conversations?” in our Help Center and Automute on our blog.

We hope you like the new way to mute conversations in Fleep! As always, feedback and requests are welcome via support@fleep.io . Let’s also stay in touch through our social media channels. We’re on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram.

Voice and video calling in Fleep with appear.in

video calling in Fleep

Today, we’re launching voice and video calling in Fleep with our brand new appear.in integration!

While Fleep is great for text-based communication as your project messenger or for your team chat, sometimes you just need to talk face-to-face. That’s where the appear.in integration comes in. Use it to talk face-to-face (or voice-to-voice, if that’s your thing) to whoever you’re working with in Fleep.

How video calling in Fleep works

It couldn’t be easier to use appear.in for voice and video calling in Fleep. Simply type and send “/call” or choose Start a video call from the message box actions menu on the desktop version of Fleep.

start a video call

This will create the call and launch it in a browser window for you. A system message is posted into the conversation where you start the call, saying that you have started a video call.

Everyone who wants to join can just click on the JOIN link at the end of the system message – and the call will be launched for them.

Note that currently video calls can only be started from the desktop version of Fleep (Mac, Windows apps and web browser). However, anyone using the Fleep mobile apps can easily join the call by clicking on the JOIN link.

Why we love appear.in for video calling in Fleep

In short, appear.in is a simple product that just works! The longer version, if you’d like to read…

  • You can have group video conversations with up to 8 people at once.
  • No registration or download necessary. Simply join the call in your web browser. At most, you may have to allow popups for Fleep in your web browser, and then allow appear.in to use your camera and mic. That’s it.
  • Easy to use screensharing.
  • Join the call from any device. (App required on iOS. Get it here.)
  • Excellent video quality. Enough said!
  • Fun auto-generated URLs. https://appear.in/dynamic-shrimp. https://appear.in/delirious-chicken. We approve.
  • Stickers! A little fun never hurt nobody. Also, they’re practical. You can use them to show approval without unmuting yourself, for example.

Introducing the Trello integration in Fleep

Trello Fleep integration

You asked for it, and we listened: the Trello integration is here! You can use it to see updates to Trello cards and lists in Fleep. The updates are sent through as notifications to your Fleep conversations.

For the uninitiated – Trello is a collaboration tool that is great for project management. Since Fleep is perfect for project communication, the integration with Trello helps everyone who needs a more advanced task management system than our own Fleep Tasks.

How it works

The Trello integration sends updates from any one board to the Fleep conversation where you set it up. The updates include any changes to the lists and cards on your board, and are sent as notifications to Fleep. You can configure one Trello board per integration, and you can use a different Trello account in different Fleep conversations, if you wish.

The Trello integration in Fleep will send notifications for the following events:

  • Board – updates to the name, background, settings; board closed or re-opened; members added or removed; power-ups enabled or disabled; added to or removed from organization
  • Label – created, updated, deleted
  • List – created, renamed, moved, archived or unarchived
  • Card – created, renamed, description changed, moved, deleted, due date set or removed, marked completed or uncompleted, archived or unarchived, card cover added or removed, copied, comment added/edited/copied/removed, attachment added or removed, members added or removed, labels added or removed, vote added or removed
  • Checklist – create, remove, items added/renamed/removed, items marked as completed or uncompleted, checklist item converted into a card

Getting started with the Trello integration

It could not be easier to set up the Trello integration. First, choose a conversation (or create a new one) that will have the feed of Trello updates flowing in. Find Integrations in the Conversation Settings, and click on “Add” below the Trello integration:

trello-1

A popup will appear – here, choose Connect with Trello to proceed:

Trello integrationNext, you will need to let Fleep use your Trello account (if you’re not logged in to your Trello account, you will be prompted to do that first). Click on “Allow” to continue:

Fleep TrelloNow, you can choose which Trello board you wish to receive notifications from. Then click “Create”:

Fleep OneDrive integration

The Fleep OneDrive integration lets you post files from Microsoft OneDrive without leaving the Fleep interface. The setup is super easy as the integration is built right into Fleep.

To add files to a Fleep conversation from Microsoft OneDrive, just follow these steps:

  1. Click on the + button in the message box area and click on Choose from OneDrive:
    Fleep OneDrive
  2. If you’re using the Fleep OneDrive integration for the first time, a popup will appear, prompting you to choose or sign in to your Microsoft account:
    Fleep OneDrive integration
  3. Once you’ve signed in, a popup will appear requesting permission to let Fleep access files from your OneDrive (if it does not, make sure you have enabled pop-ups for https://fleep.io in your web browser). Click on Yes to proceed:
    Fleep OneDrive integration
  4. After giving Fleep access, you will see the insides of your OneDrive. Select the file you wish to share in the Fleep conversation, hit Open to load it and then send it in Fleep when ready:
    Fleep OneDrive
    And you’re done!

The files you select from OneDrive will also be added to the File Drawer of that Fleep conversation.

P.S. Please note that the Fleep OneDrive integration supports only files up to 1GB in size, and is only available in the desktop version of Fleep (web browser, Fleep Windows App 2.0.81 or later and Fleep Mac App 2.5 or later).
