As 2018 is drawing to a close, we bring you an overview of Fleep features that were released this year. By and large, we spent 2018 improving Tasks, emails, the general experience in Fleep and a few fun things… Read on, if you’d like!

Here’s what we released to Tasks in Fleep this year:

  • My tasks and Private tasks — while Fleep Tasks let you create to-do lists in Fleep, the My tasks view we introduced in 2018 gives you an overview of all tasks assigned to you, across your conversations. In that view, you can also create Private tasks that are only visible to you. Read more: Introducing My tasks
  • Task completion notifications, a “Move to section” action, the “Archive all” action and some minor improvements — as Tasks are a core part of Fleep, we kept investing into Fleep Tasks in 2018. You can get a full overview of these improvements to the core functionality here: Fleep Tasks update

The fun stuff:

  • Emoji reactions — we love emoji reactions, not just for fun, but also for how they can improve productivity. You can use reactions to respond to something, without sending an actual message that would alert everyone in the conversation. Read the full update: Introducing Emoji reactions in Fleep
  • Status message — this allows users to add statuses like “on vacation” or “working from home” to their profile. Status message is only available to Fleep for Business users. Read more: Fleep status message is here
  • Emoji revamp — we’ve had support for emoji in Fleep for a while, and this year we put a decent amount of effort into making emoji look really nice in Fleep. This included a migration to Missive’s open source Emoji picker, to EmojiOne 4.0 and building Unicode 11 support.
  • Fleep News Bot — this friendly bot shares Fleep product news with you, whenever there is something that is relevant to you. If you’d like, you can always mute the conversation with Fleep News Bot, or leave or delete the conversation if you do not wish to receive Fleep News.
Fleep Features

General updates to how you can use Fleep:

  • User search — Fleep is an open platform, so you can collaborate with any other Fleep user. With user search, you can now easily find other Fleep users, who are not your contacts yet. Read more: Introducing user search in Fleep
  • Canned responses — you can now create and use canned responses in Fleep, as quick replies, as task creation templates or as a stash of your favorite gifs, for example. Read more: Introducing Canned responses in Fleep
  • Improvements to push notifications — by default, Fleep only sends you a push notifications for the first new message in a conversation. So, this year, we introduced the option to receive push notifications for every new message for those who prefer that. Additionally, we worked on minor improvements to mobile push notifications, e.g. so that they are updated when a message is edited or deleted.
  • Message and file history export to Dropbox — conversation history export is not a new feature in Fleep, but we recently added the option to export messages and files directly to your Dropbox, if you’re a fan of backups. Read more: How can I export my Fleep conversation history?
  • appear.in default room — for the appear.in calling integration in Fleep to work seamlessly, you have to configure an appear.in room to be the used when you start a call in Fleep. Open any Fleep conversation’s settings and configure a default appear.in room where it says Default appear.in room name — and all calls started in that conversation will launch the respective appear.in room. Read more: appear.in default room
  • Wide right pane — we made it possible to expand Taskboards and Pinboards in conversations to a wider state, to give you a really zen experience for working with tasks and pinned messages. Read more: Wide right pane
  • Sleep mode — this is an account preference that helps make sure that if you leave a Fleep conversation open on your screen for longer, then new incoming messages will not be marked as read automatically. Instead, they will be shown with the “New messages” indicator. With this account preference, we help make sure you don’t miss any new messages that may be important to you. Read more: Sleep mode
  • Web app message flow rewrite — this was a technical rewrite that improved our message flow on the desktop versions. Some of the functionality that was majorly improved with this rewrite includes the “Show in conversation” actions for files, tasks, search results, as well as general usability and fluidity of the message flow.
Fleep Features

Throughout 2018, we had an entire team working on emails in Fleep. Here are all the major updates we made to how emails work in Fleep:

  • General UX improvements in email conversations — this update included expandable headers in the message flow, email “pending” state, improved Taskboard and Pinboard experience in email conversations, among other things. Read more: New in Email Conversations: Email headers, Email “pending” state and more
  • Reply to a specific email message — for those of you who are managing your emails in Fleep, we built the option to Reply to any previous email message. Simply find the “Reply” action in the message actions in the message flow! (Desktop-only at the moment.) Read more: Improvements to email conversations
  • Show last email message quote in message flow and message entry box — in an effort to make it more transparent how email conversations work, we now show all quoted messages and email signatures (including your own!) in the conversation. This makes it more clear what is send out in email conversations (i.e. what’s included in the quote etc.). By default, these are hidden behind a [...] button, which you can use to toggle to show / hide the quoted information. Read more: Improvements to email conversations
  • Show email headers in the message entry box — this means that you can expand the Subject area in the message entry box to see the “From” and “To” lines in email conversations. This makes it more clear to whom any messages are sent out and what email address / alias is used to send these out from your account. Read more: Improvements to email conversations

It’s time for our most popular type of product blog post: Fleep Quarterly Plans! In this blog post, we will review what got done in Q3 and what are our plans for the next quarter.

Our Q3 consisted of June, July, August. It’s is usually a slow quarter for us in terms of development. This is simply because many people on our team like to go on vacation during these months! Nevertheless, we got quite a few things done. Here’s the review of Fleep Quarterly Plans of Q3:

    • My tasks and Private tasksFleep Tasks let you create to-do lists in Fleep, and the brand new My tasks view gives you an overview of all tasks assigned to you, across your conversations.
Private tasks were nice add-on to My tasks, allowing you to create private tasks that are visible only to you, shown on your My tasks view. Read more in this blog post: My tasks
    • Archive All action on Taskboards — previously, you could archive all tasks that were marked as “Done” with one click. Now, you can also choose to just archive all tasks in a section.
    • Lots of improvements to email conversations — showing expandable headers in the message flow, email “pending” state, improved Taskboard and Pinboard experience and more! See the full update in this blog post.
    • Fleep News Bot — this friendly bot will share Fleep product news with you, whenever there is something that is relevant to you. Some of our older users may remember us testing this out some years ago as well, so in a way, it’s back! Look out for a Fleep News Bot message in the first week of October!

Fleep Quarterly Plans

So, what’s next you ask? Here are the Fleep Quarterly Plans for Q4, that is September, October, November:

  • Emoji revamp — we’ve had support for emoji in Fleep for a while, and now we’re putting some more effort into making emoji look nicer in Fleep. This means we’re migrating to Missive’s open source Emoji picker, to EmojiOne 4.0 and building Unicode 11 support. It’ll be beautiful.
  • Status message — this will allow users to add a status like “on vacation” or “working from home” to their profile. We’ve already started preparations for this!
  • Global user search — Fleep is an open platform, so you can collaborate with any other Fleep user. Global user search will make it easier for you to find your contacts on Fleep.
  • Improvements to Labels — the plan is to allow for more customization in using your Fleep labels. More specifically, that you could configure more of the sorting and push notifications rules.
  • System messages revamp — we’re improving how system messages look!
  • Message entry box revamp — we’re improving the look and feel of the message entry box area!

We hope you like the direction we have taken in our Fleep Quarterly Plans! You can always send feedback to support@fleep.io. Let’s also stay in touch on social media! You can find Fleep on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.

Another quarter has passed, which means it’s time to review what got done in Q2 and take a look at what are the Fleep product plans for Q3 of 2018.

First off, a review of what we built in Q2 of 2018:

  • My tasks — we finished the development of My tasks functionality cross platforms, and we also went through beta testing. Based on the feedback, we started some further development to add functionality to My tasks before its launch (which is why we haven’t released it yet… thanks for your patience!). More on the added functionalities under the product plans for Q3!
  • Make join URLs great again on mobile — joining conversations, teams, organizations via a URL is now a breeze on mobile browsers. This was long overdue, but better late than never!
  • Mobile browser onboarding — we made it possible to sign up to Fleep in the mobile web browser (instead of an instant redirect to the mobile apps). This means signing up to Fleep is way more delightful on all mobile browsers.
  • Reply to a specific message action in email conversations — for those of you who are managing your emails in Fleep, we built the option to Reply to any previous email message. Simply find the “Reply” action in the message actions in the message flow! (Desktop-only at the moment.)
Read more in this blog post.
  • Show last email message quote in message flow and message entry box — in an effort to make it more transparent how email conversations work, we now show all quoted messages and email signatures (including your own!) in the conversation. This makes it more clear what is send out in email conversations (i.e. what’s included in the quote etc.). By default, these are hidden behind a [...] button, which will toggle to show / hide the quoted information. (Desktop-only at the moment.)
    Find out more here.
  • Show email headers in the message entry box — along similar lines as the previous task, this means that you can expand the Subject area in the message entry box to see the “From” and “To” lines in email conversations. This makes it more clear to whom any messages are sent out and what email address / alias is used to send these out from your account. (Desktop-only at the moment.)
More info in the blog post about recent updates to email conversations.
  • Raise maximum number of members from 200 to 500 — this applies to Fleep conversations, teams and Fleep for Business organizations.
  • Reactions mobile UI — Reactions on the desktop apps were released already during Q1, and in Q2 we made them also available on the Android and iOS apps.
  • iPhone Push Notifications 2.0 — this was a technical rewrite, but it also brought some user benefits — now, when someone edits a message, the push notifications will be updated accordingly in receiving iPhone devices. Also, if the respective message is deleted, the push notification will be updated as well.
  • Web app message flow rewrite — another technical rewrite that improved tons of our message flow on the desktop versions, like “Show in conversation” actions for files, tasks, search results, as well as general usability and fluidity of the message flow.

So, what do we have planned next? Here are the Fleep product plans for Q3 (June, July, August):

  • Private tasks — ability to create tasks visible only to yourself on your My Tasks view. We’re considering this a key part of My tasks functionality. Once the development of Private tasks is finished, we will release My tasks to all Fleep for Business users.
  • Tasks due dates — after Private tasks, due date functionality is up next for Tasks in Fleep, along with reminders for due dates.
  • Column view on Taskboards — the idea here is to be able to view Taskboards (in conversations and in the My tasks view) in a way where different task sections are columns.
  • Phone number verification — we’re making it possible to verify the phone number you have on your Fleep account. This is the first step towards being able to find your contacts in Fleep by their phone numbers.
  • Global user search — similarly to phone number verification, the goal of global user search is to make it easier to find your contacts in Fleep.
  • User status — this will allow users to add a status like “on vacation” or “working from home” to their profile, which will be visible next to their name. Fleep users often use their name field for this currently, but the user status feature will make it more convenient and easy to use. User status will be a paid feature in the Fleep for Business subscription.
  • Organization-wide settings — with this feature, Fleep for Business admins will be able to enforce certain settings for all of their organization’s accounts: that Presence will have to be enabled on all accounts, and that only Google or Microsoft sign in could be used.
  • Updates to email experience — following the line of recent improvements to email conversations, we are planning further updates that include: showing expandable headers in the message flow, exposing outgoing emails’ “pending” state (the 30-second window Fleep users have to edit outgoing emails before they are actually sent out) along with a “send now” option, and “Reply on 1:1″ action for group email conversations.

We hope you like the direction we have taken in our product plans! As always, don’t hesitate to give us feedback at support@fleep.io. Let’s also stay in touch on social media! You can find Fleep on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram.

Another quarter has come and gone! Not too long ago we gave an overview of Fleep features released in 2017 — now, it is time for the Fleep quarterly review of what got done in Q1 of 2018 and what we have planned next.

So, here is the review of Q1 of 2018:

  • Task completion notifications — these push a notification to the conversation whenever someone marks a task as done. Think of it as a subtle, but effective form of instant gratification, a virtual high-five. If these get too much though, you can always turn them off from the Conversation settings.
  • More Tasks improvements — as Tasks are a core part of Fleep, we keep investing into incremental improvements to make sure the functionality comes full circle for our users. These improvements included a “Move to section” action, a rewrite of Tasks on mobile apps and a great secret feature involving the ((todo)) and ((done)) emoticons.
  • Wide right pane — you can now expand Taskboards and Pinboards to an even wider state, giving you a really zen experience for working with tasks and pinned messages.
  • Fleep emoji reactions — we think you’ll love our recently released emoji reactions not just for all its fun effects, but also for how it can improve productivity. You can use reactions to respond to something, without sending an actual message that would alert everyone in the conversation.
  • Push notifications for every new message — there are people who love our intelligent logic for sending push notifications, optimized for less noise and more focus — and there are people who’d rather receive a push notification for every new incoming message. Now, if you belong to the later group, go ahead and try out this new account Preference!
  • Sleep mode — this is an account preference we almost didn’t want to let users decide about. Its default setting makes sure that if you leave a Fleep conversation open on your screen, then new incoming messages will not be marked as read automatically. Instead, they will be shown with the “New messages” indicator. We’re trying to make sure you won’t miss any messages that may be important to you. However, if this in any way hinders how you use Fleep, you can set the timer for longer than the default 1min or disable it altogether.
  • appear.in default room — if you’re a regular user of our audio and video calling with appear.in, then this one’s for you! Open any Fleep conversation’s settings and configure a default appear.in room — and all calls started in that conversation will launch the respective appear.in room.

And what do we have planned next? Here’s what we have planned to build in the next 3 months (March, April, June), the Q2 of 2018:

  • My tasks  as always, unfinished business is our first priority. We’re starting beta testing real soon!
  • Mobile support for emoji reactions  this is a no-brainer. We wanted to launch emoji reactions to you as soon as possible, but we weren’t going to leave these without mobile support. Soon enough, you’ll be able to see, add and remove reactions on the mobile apps as well!
  • Private tasks  in beefing up our Tasks functionality, Private tasks are up next after My tasks. These will be the kind of tasks that only you can see, in your My tasks view.
  • User status and do not disturb mode  this has been requested from us for a while, and we believe it will be a feature that, like reactions, adds a good mix of useful & fun to Fleep.
  • Global user search  as Fleep is a network, we’re planning to make it easier for users to find other Fleep users. Currently, you can ‘find’ people when adding them to conversations with their Fleep username or primary email address. Global user search will add the option of finding people by their name!
  • Improvements to email conversations  we will be working to improve the experience of email messages in Fleep. These will be a treat to everyone who uses Fleep to send and receive emails!

We hope you liked this Fleep quarterly update. If you have any questions or feedback, don’t hesitate to contact us at support@fleep.io. Let’s also stay in touch through our social media channels. We’re on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram.

It’s the end of the year, which means it’s time to review how we did in 2017. Nope, we’re not going to tell you about how many cups of coffee we consumed or how many slices of cake we had per team member… Let’s just  say our CEO loves cake, and our CTO probably has coffee running in his veins instead of blood.

So, without further ado, let’s take a look at what Fleep features were released in the last 12 months.

  • Tasks 2.0 and Event Stream API – this entailed a thorough rewrite of our message flow and Taskboards, behind-the-scenes enhancements to Fleep Tasks. This also included some preparation work for the long-awaited My Tasks feature (more about that later…).
  • Fleep for Business – in 2017, we had a dedicated team working on everything Fleep for Business-related. We launched Fleep for Business in September, and then added some more functionalities in the months that followed.
  • Trello integration – this long-awaited integration can be used to send updates from Trello cards and lists to a Fleep conversation. Read more: Introducing the Trello integration in Fleep!
  • appear.in integration – we built an integration with appear.in so you could create and join audio-video calls directly from Fleep. Read more: Voice and video calling in Fleep now with appear.in.
  • appear.in integration 2.0 – then, we upgraded our appear.in integration so you can start a call with any specific appear.in room by using the command /call roomname.
  • Team labels 2.0 – we made some changes to how team labels work and how you can use them to organize your conversations. Since the launch of Fleep Teams, every team created is accompanied by a team label that is automatically added to all team conversations. Now, you can also add the label to any other conversation as well. Your conversations, your rules.
  • Left pane rewrite – we rewrote the left pane (conversation list on the desktop version), improving the desktop conversation list and moving all search in Fleep to the left pane. As a part of these changes, we also said our farewell to the All Conversations view in the web app.
  • “New messages” animation – we introduced this animation to indicate when new messages have been marked as read.
  • Linux app – yes, Fleep for Linux was signed, sealed, delivered in 2017.
  • Mobile label management – labels help you organize your conversations in Fleep. This year, we made it possible to add and remove labels on the Android and iOS apps!
  • Server infrastructure reorganization – we split our servers onto more separate VMs, to better serve increasing server load.
  • Android push notifications 2.0 – as Android recently made some changes to how push notifications work, we had to make some changes to make sure our push notifications work seamlessly.
  • Storage limit – we have started calculating how much storage you have used, based on how many files you have access to – including both files you’ve uploaded and what have been shared with you.
  • Mute until read – now you have the option to mute conversations until you read them. Once you have read all messages, the conversation will be unmuted.
  • Other – we re-hauled our sign-up flow, which now works with code based verification, and also started work on message reactions.

Fleep features

What’s next?

We have made our plans for the next quarter, and set our focus on Tasks. We will work on task notifications that will alert the conversation when a task is completed and My Tasks, a view where you can see all tasks assigned to you, in one place (let us know through Support if you’d like to be a beta user for this!). After that, we will start working on due dates for our tasks. Additionally, we will work on some improvements to Fleep Teams, email conversations and managed conversations.

We hope you like the direction we are moving in. If you have any questions or feedback, don’t hesitate to contact us at support@fleep.io. Let’s also stay in touch through our social media channels. We’re on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram.
